Short history

Starting with 09.01.1986, the guard and protection of Nuclear Power Plant Cernavoda was provided by a platoon of gendarmes belonging to the Brigade 21, Constanta. In 09.01.1988 the subunit became the Gendarmes Detachment Cernavoda and from 06.15.1995 on, it was called the Special Gendarmes Battalion Cernavoda. On 10.20.1998 the Unit is named Battalion 72 Gendarmes Objective Guard and on 05.01.2005, the Gendarmes Special Unit of Institutional Guard and Protection Cernavoda .

In honour of the Romanian architect Anghel Saligny (1854 - 1925) creator of the monumental art work, the Carol I Bridge in Cernavoda, the Unit 72 Gendarmes Institutional Guard and Protection has the honorary denomination of <ANGHEL SALIGNY>.
